Monthly highlights - May 2026
Strengthening Livelihoods Through Vocational Training
People's Goal successfully completed the second batch of its Basic Electrical, Air Conditioning, and Refrigerator Repair Training on 8 May 2026. Over a five week period, participants received hands on technical training, including practical maintenance and repair of household air conditioners.
A total of nine trainees graduated, including Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) soldiers, former People's Defense Force members, and activists. Graduates received certificates, travel support, and participated in a reflection session to share their experiences and lessons learned.
The program is part of PG's ongoing commitment to supporting former revolution participants and CDM members in rebuilding sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.
Sharing Stories of Transformation
PG released a new video story featuring Ma Soe Sandar Kyaw, the wife of a CDM soldier, who shared her journey of personal growth through entrepreneurship, business training, and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) education supported by People's Goal. The story highlights how access to learning opportunities can strengthen resilience and create new pathways for displaced families.
Expanding Access to Vocational Skills
Applications opened for the third batch of the Household Electrical Appliances and Motor Repair Training in Mae Sot, Thailand. The six week training program targets CDM soldiers, police officers, civil servants, activists, and former revolutionary members seeking practical skills for long term income generation.
In line with PG's commitment to equality and inclusion, women and members of ethnic minority communities were strongly encouraged to apply.
Safe Housing Support for CDM Families
PG continued to provide protection support through its Safe House Program for CDM military and police families arriving at the Thai Myanmar border. The program offers temporary accommodation and assistance to families facing displacement and housing insecurity during their transition to civilian life.
Weaving Training Creates Employment Opportunities
The second batch of PG's Basic Weaving Training concluded in Mizoram State, India, after six weeks of training. Ten participants joined the course, including CDM members, family members, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and former PDF members who had fled conflict affected areas.
Nine trainees successfully graduated, and five were directly connected to employment opportunities immediately after completing the training, demonstrating the program's contribution to livelihood recovery and economic resilience.
Promoting Respect for International Humanitarian Law
On 19–20 May 2026, People's Goal and Principle of Humanity (PoH) jointly conducted a two day International Humanitarian Law (IHL) training in Aizawl, Mizoram State, India.
The training brought together nine CDM soldiers and police officers, along with three family members. Facilitated by three trainers from PG and PoH, the sessions focused on the protection of civilians, military codes of conduct, and the laws of armed conflict.
This initiative forms part of PG's broader efforts to promote accountability, civilian protection, and compliance with humanitarian principles among those affected by Myanmar's ongoing conflict.
