Cutting Through the Noise: November Talks Expose Junta Propaganda and Illegitimate Election
When the Thought Process Programme returned in late October, it felt like a fresh space for people to breathe, question, and understand. In November, two key discussions were held. The first, “How to respond to SAC’s election propaganda strategy of using artists,” brought together actor Daung, CSO leader Daw Khin Lay, and defector soldier Nyi Thuta, who all warned that the junta is increasingly using artists and propaganda films to influence public opinion ahead of its sham election. They stressed that propaganda aims to confuse and pressure people, and that both artists and citizens must choose to stand with the people, stay vigilant, and reject attempts to manipulate the truth.
The second talk, “How to react to SAC’s Sham Election,” featured Daw Khin Ohmar and U Si Thu Maung, who explained ASEAN’s firm rejection of the junta’s planned election and highlighted growing international scrutiny. They emphasized that the junta lacks legitimacy and is using the election as a facade to maintain power, while true progress lies in strengthening federal democracy in liberated areas and building unity among revolutionary forces.
