Stitching Resilience into the Future

Completion of Basic Tailoring Course Batch (2) in Aizawl

On April 3, 2026, People’s Goal marked the completion of the Basic Tailoring Course Batch (2) in Aizawl, Mizoram State, India. More than a graduation, the ceremony reflected a quiet but powerful form of resistance. At a time when military repression continues to disrupt everyday life across Myanmar, rebuilding livelihoods has become part of sustaining the revolution itself.

The eight women who completed the training come from communities deeply affected by conflict, including displaced individuals and families connected to the Civil Disobedience Movement. Having fled areas such as Sagaing Region and Chin State, they now face the challenge of rebuilding their lives in unfamiliar and uncertain conditions. Through this eight week course, they gained both theoretical and practical skills in tailoring and embroidery, enabling them to begin earning independently.

The awarding of a sewing machine to one top performer and financial stipends to all trainees represents more than material support. It reflects an effort to restore dignity, stability, and self reliance at a time when many have been cut off from formal systems and livelihoods. In this context, small scale income generation becomes a pathway toward rebuilding lives under military repression.

By supporting women to develop practical skills, People’s Goal contributes to strengthening community resilience and creating alternative ways for displaced communities to sustain themselves beyond systems shaped by military control.
